Journal Activity - June 15, 2025

This past week I had the opportunity to speak at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Distance Running Camp in Kearney, NE about overcoming anxiety in running/racing. As someone who has placed his faith in Jesus Christ who just happens to work with athletes on their mental game, I know that the true answer to being FREE2COMPETE is to understand WHOSE you are & WHAT He thinks of you. True FREEDOM begins when we are rooted in Christ.
I don’t know what you think as you read that, maybe you are ready to delete today’s journal activity. Maybe you’ve be burned by “church” or “christians” in the past. Maybe you are angry at God or just don’t really know anything about Him. I would ask that you approach today’s journal activity with an open mind.
OVERCOMER
Today’s journal activity and one of the things I challenged the athletes I spoke to at FCA Distance camp were inspired by the movie “Overcomer.” It might be worth your time to watch in the future even if it is about a cross country runner. Give this 1:40 second clip a watch.
Her answer in this video to the question “Hannah Scott, who are you?” is based on her time reading and reflecting on Ephesians 1 & 2. My desire for you is to understand that the things that are true for Hannah Scott in this video are true for YOU!
I would encourage you to read the words that inspired her answer for yourself. If you don’t have a Bible, you can read them here:
One more thing I am going to ask you to do before we get to your journal activity for the week. Listen to the song “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong which is the title of this week’s journal activity and pay particular attention to the lyrics.
I am chosen
Not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me
Not against me
I am who You say I am
JOURNAL ACTIVITY
If you had to answer the question “Who are you?” What would you say?
Does your answer bring you FREEDOM or does it WEIGH YOU DOWN?
Please read Ephesians 1 & 2 multiple times this week and write down what stands out to you.
If you have questions about what you read in Ephesians 1 & 2, I would love to talk to you more about it. Please email me at [email protected]
