In Honor of Father's Day
Journal Activity - June 16, 2024
Father’s day is a great opportunity to step back and remember that none of us have gotten to where we are on our own. Who you are, what you’ve accomplished, is built off the support and sacrifice of many people around you. For many, one of those people is their father.
“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: He believed in me!”
I want you to listen to the song below and pay attention to the lyrics. This song is about a father struggling with what he’s missed in his child’s life as he’s worked to provide for his family. When I first heard this song I connected with it as a father. Now, must of you aren’t fathers so your journal activity is a little different. List to the son and then on with the journal activity below.
JOURNAL ACTIVITY
I would like you to write about the sacrifices your father has made to help you get to where you are. I would encourage you to take it a step further and after journaling about those sacrifices, write a thank you note to your father thanking him for those sacrifices.
EXAMPLE: My father has always been a tremendous supporter of mine. When I was an athlete, he was at every cross country and track & field meet. He was never one of many words about how I ran, but he was always there and his presence meant so much to me. It still does as he continues to show up to many of the meets that my teams compete in. His sacrifice of time to just simply be there has had a huge impact on my.
If your father isn’t in your life, I would encourage you to think of someone who helps fill that role for you.
BONUS JOURNAL: What does this image mean to you?
DAILY JOURNALS
If you haven’t already printed off the FREE2COMPETE athlete journal sheet & taped it on the inside front cover of your journal, I would encourage you to do that TODAY! It is attached to the email.
These daily journal activities - What Went Well Journal, a Gratitude Journal, Pre-Competion & Post Competition journal activities - are designed to provide you the opportunity to be intentional about your reflection and mental growth on a daily basis.
What impact could 10-20 minutes of mental work a day have in your life over the span of 1 month? 6 months? The next year?
